Local Grid Rank Tracking
Grid rank tracking shows where a business ranks in the Google local pack across its whole service area — not one national rank, but a map. It runs an N×N grid of points around the business and checks the local-pack ranking for your keyword(s) at each point, then draws the result as a heatmap: green points rank well, red points rank poorly or don't show at all. The ranking data is pulled live for each scan.
Where it lives
- Sidebar → Rank Tracker (
/rank-tracker) — the org-wide view: every scan across all your businesses in one list, plus credit management. - Profile detail → Rank Grid tab — run and view scans for a single business.
Rank Tracker is available to every organization. Opening it and reading scans needs the same permission as viewing a profile; running or scheduling a scan (which spends credits) needs profile manage permission.
Running a grid scan
From a business's Rank Grid tab:
- Click Run a grid scan (or New scan if the business already has scans).
- Pick the keyword(s) to check (for example,
emergency plumber). - Choose the grid size and the scan area on the map. A 9×9 grid drops 81 points around the business; a larger grid or a wider area covers more ground — and costs more credits.
- Start it. The scan runs in the background — you can close the launcher and come back; results appear on the tab when it finishes.
Each finished scan shows a heatmap of the grid (every point coloured by the business's local-pack rank there for the selected keyword) plus four summary metrics. Hover any metric for its definition:
| Metric | What it means | Better is |
|---|---|---|
| SoLV — Share of Local Voice | The percentage of grid points where the business ranks in the top 3 of the local pack | Higher |
| ARP — Average Rank Position | The average local-pack rank across the points where the business was found | Lower |
| ATRP — Average Total Rank Position | Like ARP, but points where the business was not found are penalized (counted as pack-depth + 1), so coverage gaps hurt the score | Lower |
| Found | How many grid points showed the business in the local pack, out of the total scanned | Higher |
Use the Keyword selector to switch between scanned keywords, Compare to a past scan to see movement over time, and Re-scan to re-run the same grid.
To see the grid against the area the business can actually serve, generate Market Reach zones from the same tab. The drive-time zones draw underneath the rank dots, with the population inside each zone. See Market Reach.
Scheduling recurring scans (campaigns)
Click Schedule on the Rank Grid tab to set up a campaign — a scan that re-runs automatically so you can track movement without doing it by hand.
- Cadence: Daily, Weekly, or Monthly.
- Every run spends credits just like a manual scan, so size the grid and keyword count against your monthly credit plan.
- Each run is kept in the history, so you can line runs up with Compare to a past scan.
Credits
Grid scans use live, paid ranking data, so they're metered by credits.
- 1 credit = one grid point × one keyword. A scan costs
active points × keywords— so a 9×9 grid on 1 keyword = 81 credits, and the same grid on 2 keywords costs 162. - Credits come from a monthly credit plan that renews each month.
- New organizations receive a one-time batch of trial credits so you can try a scan or two. After that, you buy a credit plan to keep scanning.
If you're out of credits, the app tells you directly — for example "No grid-rank credits available. Buy a credit plan to run scans." or "Not enough grid-rank credits remaining this month for this scan. Buy more credits or wait for next month."
Buying & managing credits — in the Rank Tracker, not Billing
Credits are managed in the Rank Tracker view, via the button at the top-right:
| If you… | Button reads | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| have no plan yet | Buy credits | Pick a plan → Continue to checkout (secure Stripe checkout) |
| already subscribe | Manage credits | See your current plan, then Change plan, Cancel, or Resume |
There are several fixed credit packages plus a custom amount; current sizes and prices are shown in the Buy credits dialog.
- Change plan happens in-app: an upgrade adds credits immediately (prorated); a downgrade applies from the next renewal.
- Cancel stops the renewal at the end of the current period — you keep your credits until then — and Resume undoes a pending cancel before the period ends.
Grid credits are separate from your plan subscription. They don't come out of your monthly plan and they aren't shown in the Billing view. If you open Manage in Stripe from Billing, that portal can only cancel the credit subscription — to change the credit plan, use Rank Tracker → Manage credits → Change plan.
Tips
- Start small. A 7×7 or 9×9 grid on your one or two most important keywords tells you most of what you need and keeps credit use predictable.
- Watch SoLV and Found over time — a weekly or monthly campaign makes trends obvious and is the cleanest way to show a client that local visibility is improving.
- Bigger grids and more keywords multiply credits fast (
points × keywords), so grow the grid deliberately.
